Sharpen for Print and for Web Separately
Give two sharpening exports from one master: a print file and a web file. They are not the same file with a different JPEG slider. MASTER Subject: [PORTRAIT | PRODUCT | DETAIL] Master size and color space: [WHAT I HAVE] Print: [INCHES, DPI, PAPER TYPE IF KNOWN] Web: [LONG EDGE, sRGB] PLAN 1) Do all tone and cleanup on the master before sharpening. Sharpening is last and is not saved back over the master. 2) Print: radius and amount logic for the paper, a light mask so smooth skin or sky does not get grit, and a note to judge at 100% not fit-to-screen. 3) Web: output sharpen after the resize, not before. The halo check. 4) File names and formats. A soft-proof note only if I said this is going to a press. 5) The one image type that needs less sharpening than I think (already-sharpened phone photos, screenshots). Do not use one harsh unsharp mask on everything.
